One of my friends and I walk along a country road for exercise each week. Which country road? Cannot say. Which friend? Ditto.
My partner-in-crime and I espied these bush lemons growing wild and unloved in another person's paddock. We have been watching them weekly and decided that this week they had to go. We would rescue them and love them and they would not rot into the unappreciative ground, forgotten and alone, never to be enjoyed. A bit much? Yeah, well I am the Queen of Lemon Zest Waffle.
We scanned the area for marauding farmers with pitch forks and cows/bulls with big horns and found them absent. We helped each other under the skin ripping barbed wire fence and proceeded to strip the tree of its produce. What a haul eh? We used my friend's jacket to carry them back to the lair (my kitchen) and voila! I am in possession of more lemons than you can poke a stick at (or at least a sharp knife).
I have great plans for these stolen bush lemons. One of them, and the most important of them, is to offer them to the Old Cheese so she can make her famous Lemon Meringue Pie. MMMM! It is the best in the world, THE WORLD, I tell you.
I grew a bush lemon tree once. It died. I fertilized it, nurtured it, mulched it with the best chook poo but it curled up its root system and carked it. I think these trees grow best neglected and unloved. Oh well, there is one down a certain country road that can be raided with my partner-in-crime when we walk there sometime in next year's season.
A lot of waffle about my life on a small property in Australia and the people and animals that share it with me.

Hello-o-o Down There
How cute is this cat of ours? Old Cous Cous is still going strong, still dealing with the many mice we seem to have around here this year and looking better than ever. She is obviously enjoying the twilight of her years in the smelly dirty clothes basket amongst my Lovely Husband's sweaty and grimy work clothes. I think we can all learn from this. Even in old age we can appreciate the ones we love even though they may stink.
Brain Cake
This week was Brain Injury Awareness Week and so in honour of this auspicious occasion I baked a cake. I found a recipe of suitable auspiciousness and whipped it up toot sweet. (get it?)
The cake was low in fat, high in fibre, all those things the teens cannot bear which was just as well because I was taking it to work for morning tea anyhoo.
You may notice that some of the 'brains' (apricots) have disappeared into the quagmire and a couple are sitting nicely on top. (I did this on purpose of course. It had nothing to do with my baking ability!) It is symbolic of my life. The ones that have sunk into the quagmire (cake) represent my bad days, days when the old noggin is not functioning well and in a thick haze. The brains sitting nicely on top are my good days when everything is clear and functioning beautifully. There are, of course, the ones half way between and this represents my life on the whole. All in all I am a very yummy and delectable morsel that is not bad for you and might even unblock your bowel.

Rat Cam
Meet Chai, the Dynamic Daughter's newest pet. This Taj Mahal of cages has been superseded because the little bugger worked out she could escape between the bars. Hmmph. The Daughter spent good money on it and in one second it is kaput. We have obtained a hand-me-down of the purple variety and it is much more suitable to a little rat like her.

Opera House in the Country
The Opera House, best known in its usual spot at Sydney Harbour, has a sibling here in the country. Or does it? Just up the road from me, while walking the hounds I found this. We were all three of us panting and puffing, tongues hanging out, eyes bulging and ready to drop. I just happen to have my mobile with me so I snapped this sucker. Can you guess? The sun was setting in just the right place to produce this shadow from a succulent planted nearby. I love it. Have since tried to capture with my real camera but the image is not as good believe it or not.
Mother Goose at it Again!
Fanny Goose is sitting on five eggs. I was not going to have it this year, no more babies but she hid the nest and by the time I found it it was too late. I am a wimp. Cannot destroy eggs she has been sitting on for a whole three days. Whoopee! Oh well, they will sell just like the last batch. She is happy. Bruce is not. No more action with her obviously. He has that sly look with me again and again will remain lonely.
Once again photo to come.
White Rat Joins Our Family
A homeless waif, a stray of questionable past and lineage has joined the family. The Dynamic Daughter has been talking about getting another rat, a baby one but then we saw it. An add in the pet shop window. Someone had found a stray rat and it needed a home. Enter the soft hearted mother/daughter combination and we have taken on this lost soul. Poor little creature was infested with red mites, half starved and dehydrated. She is only small and we are assuming it is because she is young but it could be stunted growth as well. The Dynamic Daughter has purchased the Taj Mahal of rat cages and named this little eating machine Chai. Chai is weak and very quiet but we are sure we can build her up to a normal energetic rodent of Amazonion proportions.
Photo to come as the camera is in the camera hospital. It has a dust speck on the sensor and will be away for FOUR weeks. OMG. What will I do.
