I'm a Grandmother!!

Four new baby goslings for Fanny and Bruce....how exciting. They are so-o-o cute. Bruce and Fanny are now very, very protective and my mate Bruce is not happy to see me anymore. He is such a good dad. I got these photos before they went back under their mum. They are so much bigger than I expected. Unfortunately, because they are not in a pen, they will be susceptible to crow attack. I am hoping we do not have that problem.

Spring Has Sprung

From Boofette to "Lady"

I am a self confessed boofhead. The Lovely Husband calls me a Boofette (as if that is better). I wear daggy clothes around the house and property. I wear trousers/jeans/shorts in preference to skirts and dresses. I am not a wearer of makeup or fancy schmancy shoes. I do like jewellery and wear it but I don't change it very often. I like perfume but it does not like me, I get hay fever for about half the year. Having said all that check out the Sammy Choo shoes I bought recently. (Sammy is Jimmy's lesser known brother of course). I had to remove my socks and Blundstone mules to try 'em on. They cost me a whole $20 from a department store. The reason? We are going to my niece's wedding soon. I have a dress, quite plain but nice, brightly coloured costume jewellery and now these shoes. Unfortunately since I bought the dress I have lost more weight (on purpose) so it may be a little roomy in places. No one will recognise me. They will look past me and wonder where the real me is. That is, until I open my big mouth and speak. I don't usually feel comfortable dressing up too much but I am actually enjoying this for some reason. Maybe I have become a Real Woman........ nahhh, it will pass I am sure.

Loose Bruce Mark II

I told you in a previous post that Bruce the Goose holds particular affection for me. I told you how I had to keep him away with my foot because it is just not on. He has had wicked thoughts about the Dynamic Daughter and now he is flirting with the Lovely Husband too. I thought I was special. I thought I was the only one. But he has intentions with anything on two legs obviously, although the Young Negotiator has not as yet been approached. Well, I never! Brucey has been observed getting affectionate with the laundry basket with or without washing so I am thinking this boy has no clue as to what to do with his raging hormones. If I had the room I would get him some more girly geese but there is only so much goose poop we can deal with. I estimate that Fanny will hatch out her goslings in about another one to two weeks and so hopefully he will be busy helping her raise them. (He will help her won't he?). Unless of course he is all talk and no substance, in which case we have about six really rotten eggs.

Corrugated Magpie

We had this sign made up by the "Tin Lady", a talented woman in a nearby town who makes signs, wall hangings and garden stakes out of corrugated iron. They usually feature farm animals and native fauna. Corrugated Magpie is the unofficial name of our property. The name comes from our early days here when the magpies would stand on top of our chimney and corrugated roof and sing beautifully. The sound would travel down the chimney to the eat-in kitchen and, combined with the morning sun streaming in the enlarged kitchen window, it made our mornings quite special. These days it is the rosellas (parrots) that sit on the top of the chimney and chatter away. Obviously there has been a change in pecking order on our roof.

Feather and Moss

I was randomly snapping photos around the yard and I was taken by this lovely soft feather on the moss. We have cement stairs that lead to a blank wall where apparently there was once a door. They are covered in moss and quite beautiful.

Fanny the Mother Goose

Fanny is sitting on a clutch of eggs in our yard. I offered her this boat canopy I bought from the recycle shop at the local dump. I bedded down some straw inside and it was placed under the mango tree out of the heat and rain. All was beautiful but she decided the weeds are a much better option. There is no pleasing some people. Maybe Fanny is not a pussy. Maybe she is tough and scoffs at such luxury. Her goslings will be brought up in the elements and survive damn it! Don't pander to this one for she is a real 'woman' and will conquer adversity on her own.

Koala in our Tree

Although this is a regular occurrence on our property I always appreciate seeing these gorgeous animals.
